Edo: Policemen Who Ran Over Man Summoned By IG

Responding to a gory incident that caused public outrage, the acting Inspector General of Police Olukayode Egbedokun has demonstrated accountability, summoning the policemen accused of running over a handcuffed man in Edo State. To address the matter appropriately, the officers have been asked to appear at the Force Headquarters in Abuja.

Reports have emerged from Ekpoma, Edo State, detailing a deeply disturbing incident involving a team of policemen and a handcuffed middle-aged man. Shockingly, it is alleged that the officers deliberately ran over the man using their official vehicle, subsequently dragging him through the road. The incident has triggered widespread condemnation and demands for a comprehensive investigation to ascertain the truth behind this horrifying event.

The incident has sent shockwaves through the area, leaving residents in a state of apprehension. The unsettling nature of the event has created a climate of fear and uncertainty, as community members question the integrity and accountability of the law enforcement system.

In a statement released by Force spokesperson Muyiwa Adejobi, it has been announced that the officers responsible for the incident are required to report to the Force Headquarters on Monday.

The statement read, ‘The acting IGP has condemned the disturbing incident where a police team ran a vehicle over a citizen on Thursday, June 29, 2023, at Ekpoma, Edo State.’

‘The IGP has, therefore, directed the erring policemen, who have been in detention in Edo State, to report to the Force Headquarters Abuja on Monday for further action.’

Force spokesperson Muyiwa Adejobi has urged residents to stay calm and composed. He noted that the Force holds a strong stance against unprofessional conduct from its personnel, assuring the community that appropriate measures will be taken to address the incident and uphold the organization’s commitment to professionalism.

‘Members of the public, particularly the people of Ekpoma, are implored to remain calm as the present leadership of the NPF will not condone such an act of unprofessionalism and illegality,’ he added.

This directive highlights the intention of the authorities to hold the erring officers accountable as it underscores the gravity of their alleged offense.
