Akpabio To Present Ministerial-nominees List This Week
Senate President Godswill Akpabio

The President of the Senate, Godswill Akpabio, is expected to announce the list of ministerial nominees during this week’s plenary.

The weekly plenaries at both chambers of the National Assembly are slated for Tuesdays, Wednesdays, and Thursdays.

Agitation has intensified as President Bola Tinubu surpasses two months since his inauguration without establishing his cabinet.

The 1999 Constitution as presently amended, states that the President and governors must present the names of ministerial or commissioner nominees for confirmation by the Senate or respective state Houses of Assembly within 60 days of assuming office.

President Tinubu and 28 governors have until the end of this month to finalise and submit the names of their ministerial and commissioner nominees.

The President has only this week left to announce his ministerial nominees before the deadline expires.

The Senate President received the letter containing the names of the nominees last week, as reported by sources within the National Assembly.

The sources highlighted that the list’s reading was postponed because of eleventh-hour changes made to it.

One of the sources said, ‘The Senate President got the ministerial list last week, but it was not yet time for him to unveil it, hence the reason it was kept.’

‘Most importantly, there were some last-minute adjustments. The Senate President had a meeting with President Tinubu over the list last week.’

It was noted by another source that the administration’s proactive measures to prevent backlash resulted in the list not being postponed.

The source said, ‘The names of the ministerial nominees will be out this week.’

‘The Asiwaju-led administration has been trying its best to avoid a backlash even though it is unavoidable. The names will be unveiled this week; that is all I can say.’

According to the lawmaker, the reading of the names will take place this week, but the specific date and time were not mentioned.
