With an impressive turnout of 43 African heads of state, the first-ever Russia-Africa Summit held in 2019 garnered renewed optimism, as the continent looked forward to forging mutually beneficial investment and trade ties with Russia.
President Vladimir Putin of Russia left no room for doubt as he announced a bold vision to double trade with Africa, setting a target of $40 billion over the course of five years.
Over time, Russia’s presence in Africa has experienced significant growth, positioning itself as the dominant external ally in many nations across the continent.
The nation aims to leverage that influence as its business leaders, along with representatives from the African business community, convene a round table to discuss and strategise.
Within the framework of the New Global Economy block, the panel discussion titled ‘Doing Business in Africa: Risks, Market Conditions, Opportunities’ assumes paramount importance at this year’s Russia-Africa Economic and Humanitarian Forum.

Within the panel’s purview, both partners will have the occasion to review the $40 billion investment commitment, conducting an in-depth analysis of the growth factors and potential hindrances.
Slated for July 27-28, 2023, the meeting will be held in St. Petersburg, Russia, the Second Russia-Africa Summit, also known as the forum, will facilitate constructive dialogue between representatives from relevant Russian ministries, African and Russian business leaders, and experts in international relations. Their focus will be on addressing the challenges that both Russia and African countries encounter in a rapidly evolving global landscape.
The forum’s agenda will encompass discussions on pressing concerns, paving the way for constructive deliberations and tangible outcomes that contribute to the progress of Russian-African relations in economic, cultural, and humanitarian dimensions.
As stated by Anton Kobyakov, Advisor to the President of the Russian Federation and Executive Secretary of the Organizing Committee for Russia–Africa Events, ‘The Second Russia–Africa Summit and Russia–Africa Economic and Humanitarian Forum is set to become a unique platform for direct dialogue between business, government, and representatives of the creative and cultural communities of Russia and Africa. I am confident that in the foreseeable future, all the Forum events will lead to a strengthening of the ties between our regions and to effective cooperation.’

The session will revolve around the pivotal topics of expanding business cooperation between Russia and African countries, exploring export potential in light of present challenges, and presenting an overview of ongoing programs and projects in Africa. Skillfully guiding the discourse will be the esteemed Alexander Shokhin, who holds the position of President of the Russian Union of Industrialists and Entrepreneurs.
