While the conflict persists, Palestine has lodged a request with the United Nations, calling for Israel’s exit from its territory.
Abdallah Shawesh, the Palestinian Ambassador to Nigeria, expressed these thoughts at a press conference held in Abuja on Tuesday.
Hamas, the Palestinian militant group, made a shocking move on October 7 when they initiated an attack on Israel. The ongoing conflict has resulted in the confirmed deaths of over 1,500 individuals, with concerns of a higher death toll.
The Gaza Strip was subjected to a blockade by Israel, resulting in the interruption of electricity, water, food, and fuel provisions.

Abdallah Shawesh, the Palestinian Ambassador to Nigeria, made a strong plea during a press conference on Tuesday, calling on the United Nations to enforce international law against Israel, with the aim of compelling it to relinquish its hold on Palestinian territories.
Shawesh stated that ‘the applicability of the law will bring a halt to the conflict; otherwise, the Palestinians will continue to exercise what he describes as their legitimate right to liberate and defend themselves.’
He also implored the international community to no longer grant Israel preferential status above the law, emphasizing the importance of impartial treatment for all parties.
When asked about the Palestinian government’s support for the Hamas group, Shawesh emphasized that the group is not classified as a terrorist organization but is dedicated to the cause of liberating their land from Israeli occupation.
