Lagos Govt Seizes 200 Unregistered Vehicles In 48 Hours

The Lagos State Government has cracked down on unregistered and unpainted vehicles, impounding over 200 of them in a recent operation.

The Lagos State Traffic Management Authority (LASTMA) team, led by Sola Giwa, the Special Adviser to the Governor on Transportation, executed the successful crackdown operation.

Giwa disclosed that within the last 48 hours, the team has seized more than 200 unregistered and unpainted vehicles.

He stated that this initiative is part of a proactive approach to bolster road safety, enhance security, and regulate the transportation sector.

Giwa, during his Tuesday statement in Alausa, Ikeja, shed light on the issue, stressing that unregistered vehicles constitute a major risk to road safety and security due to their tendency to bypass mandatory inspections and regulations, which compromises their fitness for the road.

He further emphasised that the enforcement activity is designed to resolve this matter, ensuring that all vehicles operating on Lagos State roads meet the essential registration and licensing criteria.

Additionally, Giwa highlighted that the enforcement effort has brought to light that several transport companies within the CMS, Obalende, Ajah, and Ojo Cantonment regions have been deploying their vehicle fleets without appropriate documentation.

‘The State Government is taking this matter seriously and will hold such companies accountable for their actions. Transport companies found to be operating without the appropriate documentation will face legal consequences,’ he vowed

Giwa underscored the importance of vehicle registration and compliance with transport regulations, noting that the impounded vehicles will not be released until they are duly registered and have met all necessary safety standards.

Nonetheless, he reiterated the state government’s unshakable commitment to enhancing road safety and making certain that all transport operators follow the necessary regulations.

“The ongoing crackdown is one of the efforts of the State Government to create safer and more efficient transportation systems in Lagos State,” Giwa stated.
