Gov. Oyebanji Welcomes National Best Teacher Award Winner

Mr. Biodun Oyebanji, the Governor of Ekiti State, has reiterated his administration’s resolve to implement reforms that will bring about improvement in the state’s educational sector.

According to the governor, the restructuring process will encompass giving the required momentum to enhance infrastructure and create a favourable learning atmosphere, aiming to elevate educational achievements.

Oyebanji addressed the audience in Ado Ekiti on Tuesday when he welcomed Mrs. Elizabeth Adeyemi, the recipient of the 2023 National Best Teacher Award from SUBEB Model Nursery and Primary School, Omuo Ekiti, Ekiti State, to his office.

Governor Oyebanji, who welcomed the Principal of St. Louis Grammar School, Ikere Ekiti, Mrs. Funmilayo Ibitoye, the first runner-up in the best public school category, congratulated the award recipients.

He pledged that his administration would persistently allocate resources to enhance education, with a strong focus on curriculum, methodology, and the learning environment.

In his address, Oyebanji emphasized the imperative of preparing children for the 21st century’s unique challenges, highlighting that infrastructure development remains a crucial aspect of nurturing well-rounded individuals.

He said that his administration would continue to pay due attention to the teaching profession to be able to bring the best out of it saying, ‘It is the only profession that can lift a nation out of the woods as all other professions are an offshoot of the teaching profession’.

The governor motivated the award winners to persist in their efforts, aiming to earn additional honors for the state.

‘This speaks to our mantra of continuity. This foundation was laid and we are building on it. We discover that human capital development is one of our six pillars and that is why we have a location. I believe strongly that we need to improve learning outcomes and the environment.’

‘I also believe that the best investment any government can have is to invest in education because it frees you from a lot of things. An educated society is a free society, it’s a game changer’.

Adeyemi, the recipient of the Best Teacher Award, earlier expressed her appreciation for the governor’s accomplishments in education and human capital development. She stated that the governor’s focused efforts to inspire Ekiti’s teachers had positively impacted the enthusiasm of teachers and students statewide.

She said the best teachers award would spur her to put more effort into ensuring a positive impact in the lives of her pupils, stressing, ‘I now believe that teachers’ reward is not only in heaven but also on this earth’.

Adeyemi lauded the governor for fostering an environment in which learning and teaching can thrive within the school system. She stated that the governor’s dedicated focus on education would result in substantial benefits for the state.
