Woman Detained For Scalding Husband With Hot Oil – Police

The Rivers State Police Command has taken a woman, Hope Nwala, into custody for purportedly pouring hot groundnut oil on her husband, Ekelediri Nwankwo, after a disagreement that occurred in Okehi, Etche Local Government Area.

According to reports, the wife allegedly carried out the act while her husband was already asleep on the same day.

The arrest of the woman was confirmed to the press by Grace Iringe-Koko, the spokesperson for the state Police Command, on Thursday.

Superintendent of Police Iringe-Koko reported that the woman, understanding the magnitude of her crime, attempted to escape but was apprehended by law enforcement operatives.

She stated, ‘The wife has been arrested and is in Police custody. She was arrested this morning (Thursday) and brought to the command.’

‘She will be interrogated after which necessary action will follow. So for now, the investigation is ongoing.’

The individual, originally from Obite community in Ogba/Egbema/Ndoni LGA, Rivers State, reportedly attacked her husband after he confronted her regarding a mysterious man who had been seen around her and her younger sister.

As per the victim’s account, his wife started exhibiting bizarre behavior immediately after her younger sister moved in to reside with them.

With visible injuries from the attack, Nwankwo recounted how he felt compelled to expel his sister-in-law due to her disrespectful conduct in their home. He went on to explain that this decision led to a heated argument with his wife, who disagreed with him.

Nwankwo, whose face and body bore harrowing injuries from the attack, also mentioned that he had to send his sister-in-law away due to her disrespectful attitude in their home. This decision, he added, resulted in a heated argument with his wife, who opposed it.

He stated that he had no prior knowledge that the matter would escalate when he broached the subject of the strange man with his wife.

Nwankwo said, ‘I had told my wife’s younger sister to leave my house because of the way she had started dressing, and the way she occupied my matrimonial bed even when I was around.’

‘No young guy will tolerate such a behaviour, but my wife refused the younger sister to leave the house.’

‘I also saw my wife alone with one tall black guy in the shop I rented for her. Not that he is in for business, but he followed my wife and her sister here and there.’

The man added, ‘Following all these, I called her younger sister and gave her N2,000 transport fare to go home so that I could actually understand what was going on in my house.’

‘But my wife got upset. While I went to bed to sleep, she poured boiled groundnut oil on me, and then started hitting me with hammer.’
