One Killed, Many Injured As Gunmen Invade Oyo National Park

Some yet-to-be-identified gunmen yesterday reportedly invaded the old Oyo National Park in Saki East Local Government leaving at least one person dead. 

According to eyewitnesses who pleaded anonymity, at least one person had been killed and two others abducted.

The eyewitnesses went further to claim that many people were also injured while one of the abductees managed to escape.

As of the Monday when this article was filed, the identities of the man who was slain during the invasion and the victim who was taken hostage have not been released.

Adewale Osifeso who is Oyo State Police Command’s public relations officer, asserted in a statement that no lives were lost in the event.

According to him, preliminary investigations revealed that some local vigilante groups around the location, while in pursuit of alleged abductors, engaged them in a gun duel, resulting in three of their members (vigilantes) sustaining injuries.

Consequent on the above, it is important to note that no life was lost; the injured are presently responding to the medical intervention availed to them at the hospital,’ the statement affirmed.

In another report, Kaduna, over thw weekend witnessed a coordinated effort as soldiers from 1 Division Nigerian Army and Operation Whirl Punch took down three bandits and confiscated their arms, while the State Police Command conducted a successful rescue mission, saving two clerics.

The Acting Deputy Director Army Public Relations 1 Division Nigerian Army, Musa Yahaya in a statement, explained that ‘on 5 November 2023, while on clearance operation in the general area of Maidaro, Ngade, Ahla and Rikau Villages in Birnin Gwari Local Government Area, troops made contact with terrorist and criminal elements. On sighting the troops, the terrorist took to their heels as troops pursued and neutralized two while others escaped with gunshot wounds and abandoned one motorcycle.’
