Tragedy struck on Tuesday as at least four individuals lost their lives in a local supermarket in Nasarawa State’s Karu Local Government Area, following a raid by suspected robbers.

Wisfom Supermarket bore witness to a horrifying incident as gunmen stormed in around 8:45 pm, opening fire on customers and, regrettably, causing the deaths of three men and a lady, according to reports.

Concerns are mounting among residents as the incident is starting to erode their sense of peace, leaving them unsettled in the state.

Adamu Jacob, a resident interviewed at the scene, referenced alarming occurrences, including the abduction of Akwanga’s Chairman, Isa Andaha, and three others on December 25, 2023, and the kidnapping of a Kokona lecturer, along with students from the Federal University of Lafia and Nasarawa State University Keffi.

Adamu urged the state government to enhance the security infrastructure, emphasizing the critical need to safeguard lives and property in Nasarawa State.

Meanwhile, confirming the raid, the Public Relations Officer of the Nasarawa State Police Command, DSP Ranham Nansel told our correspondent that the hoodlums invaded the supper market at 8.45 p.m. and shot and killed four.

‘I wish to confirm that on January 2, 2024 at about 8:45 a.m., some hoodlums numbering about four attacked Wisdom Supermarket at Adeyi Karu Local Government Area in Nasarawa state and killed four customers.’

The PPRO reveals a troubling incident where thugs initiated gunfire on unsuspecting customers, culminating in the recovery of four victims. Expedited to the hospital, a medical doctor confirmed their tragic demise, and their bodies find rest at the Maraba Medical Center.

CP Umar Shehu Nadada, the Commissioner of Police for Nasarawa State Command, has directed the Deputy Commissioner of Police overseeing the criminal investigation department in Lafia to move swiftly to the incident scene. The purpose is to initiate a comprehensive investigation into the matter, and the findings will subsequently be disclosed to the public.
