Sharia Council Knocks Tinubu Over Economic Policies

The Supreme Council for Sharia in Nigeria (SCSN), has expressed deep concern over the nation’s deteriorating economic situation since President Bola Tinubu assumed office on May 29, 2023.

The Muslim organization at a national conference with the theme, ”Matters Arising From 2023 Election and Associated Socio-Economic Challenges,” submitted that the same faith ticket, which was pivotal to the president’s electoral success, has not translated into positive development for the country.“It highlighted a growing discontent with the current administration’s handling of socio-economic issues.

The President of the SCSN of AbdurRasheed Hadiyyatullah has lamented the state of the nation, stressing that; “we campaigned for and supported this government until it came into power, but now we are suffering. What used to cost N200 now costs N2000. “”There is scarcity of naira, and unemployment is escalating. Nigerians are not enjoying the new government at all.”

While criticizing the administration’s lack of progress, the cleric said: “The reason for the Muslim-Muslim ticket was to progress, triumph, succeed, and have a good government but we haven’t achieved anything.” “He highlighted the sharp rise in the cost of living, the scarcity of the national currency, and the rising unemployment rates that have plagued Nigerians since the new administration took office.

On corruption and inefficiency within the government, he called out unnamed ministers for siphoning and looting the treasury, urging those not committed to the nation’s welfare to resign. “”Some of the ministers are looting the treasury. We have all seen and read about it. While we sympathize with this government, the way forward is for some of these ministers to step down and make way for individuals who are honest and dedicated to working for the nation,” Hadiyyatullah said.

In contrast, Senator Ahmed Sani Yerima, the former governor of Zamfara State, voiced his support for the present administration, drawing attention to the recent Supreme Court judgment as proof of President Tinubu’s democratic principles.
