Insecurity: Nigeria Losing Economic Life, Peter Obi Laments

The Presidential candidate of Labour Party, LP in last year’s general election, Peter Obi has lamented to continuous activities of terrorists in Nigeria, stressing that the country is losing its economic life to insecurity on a daily basis.

Obi said its worrisome that terrorists activities now occur on a daily basis in Nigeria.

He was reacting to the killing of about 50 people in Ukum area of Benue State and the abduction of women and children in Borno State.

In a post he made on X which was sighted by Africa Today News, New York, Obi wrote: “Once again, Nigerians are besieged by reports of terror attacks in different parts of the country.

“While about 50 persons, including a family of seven, were reportedly killed in a militia gang war in the Ukum area of Benue State, over 100 internally displaced persons, mostly women, were reported to have been abducted in by terrorists in Borno State.

“Aside from the sad and painful loss of precious human lives to these terror attacks, our dear nation has continued to lose its economic and social life to insecurity.

“More worrisome is that these attacks now occur almost daily. We must not allow our dear nation to continue this dangerous slide into anarchy. I was equally shocked to read that farmers in Northern Nigeria now pay bandits up to N100,000 for permission to farm or risk being attacked.”

In another report, no fewer than 50 persons, including a family of seven, were feared dead yesterday following the invasion of the Gbagir community in Ukum Local Government Area of Benue State, by suspected armed Fulani militia, supported by local Tiv bandits in a battle to oust another Tiv militia gang in the area.

Africa Today News, New York gathered that most of the dead were members of the rival militia gangs, while about 12 innocent farmers were caught in the crossfire which also left over 30 persons injured and many others declared missing.
