Anyaoku, Leaders Of Thought Move To Convene National Dialogue

Chief Emeka Anyaoku, former Secretary-General of the Commonwealth and Chairman of The Patriots and the Eminent Leaders of Thought is set to con­vene a National Dialogue on Constitutional Future of Nigeria in honour of Prof. Ben Nwabueze.

A statement on Sunday signed by Wale Okunniyi, General Secretary of The Patriots and Eminent Na­tional Leaders of Thought Group, revealed that the na­tional dialogue would hold on Monday, the 18th of March in Lagos to commemorate the 10th anniversary of 2014 national confab and to set popular agenda for the con­stitution review process of the Federal Government.

The group stated that governments, former gov­ernment leaders, national leaders of thought, tra­ditional rulers, eminent scholars, civil society and labour leaders, among oth­ers, would be invited to participate at the national meeting.

According to the group, Anyaoku, had on behalf of the Eminent Leaders of Thought Group, an­nounced the Convocation of a National Dialogue on the constitutional future of Nigeria under the theme, ‘Lawful Procedures for Ac­tualising a People’s Consti­tution For Nigeria’.

The statement further reads, “The National Sum­mit, which is aimed at mo­bilising Nigerians towards a new prosperous Nigeria, is scheduled to hold at Nigeria Institute of In­ternational Affairs, NIIA, Victoria Island, Lagos on Monday, 18th March, 2024 in honour of the late Prof. Ben Nwabueze, SAN, CON, a foremost champion and protagonist of the 2014 Na­tional Confab inaugurated 10 years ago on 17th March, 2014 by President Good­luck Jonathan and whose remains was buried last week in Atani, Anambra State.

“The historic National Colloquium is also expect­ed to set a popular citi­zens’ agenda for the ongo­ing constitution review process initiated by the Nigerian National Assem­bly towards the political reconfiguration, cohesion and stability of Nigeria through a new democratic people’s constitution being advocated to replace the subsisting military decree No 24 of 1999 still in force in Nigeria as the 1999 con­stitution (as amended).

“Invited to address and participate at the Nation­al Summit are keynote speakers, discussants, the Presidency, former Presi­dents, former Vice Presi­dents, serving and former governors, leadership of the Senate and House of Reps, traditional rulers, eminent national leaders of thought, scholars, mem­bers of the judiciary, cap­tains of the private sector, leaders of organised civil society and labour, among other Nigerians,” the state­ment added.
