Cristiano Ronaldo: “My Family Tells Me To Retire Already”

Cristiano Ronaldo: “My Family Tells Me To Retire Already”

Cristiano Ronaldo has addressed ongoing speculation about retirement, revealing that while his family believes he has already achieved everything, he remains determined to keep contributing at the highest levels. The 40-year-old forward made his remarks after receiving the Prestige Award at the Portuguese Football Gala in Lisbon, an event that celebrated his long career with the national team.

“People, especially my family, say: ‘It’s time for you to stop. You’ve done everything. Why do you want to score a thousand goals?’” Ronaldo said, speaking to media outlets. But the criticism has done little to dampen his desire to press on. “I think I’m still producing good things, I’m helping my club and the national team, and why not keep going?” he added.

He also reflected on his legacy, admitting that he knows the clock is ticking, but insisting that time alone won’t determine when he stops. “I’m sure that, when I finish, I’ll leave fulfilled, because I gave it my all. I know I don’t have many more years to play, but the few I have, I try to enjoy to the fullest.” Ronaldo continued.

One of the more heartfelt moments came when Ronaldo spoke about what really drives him: representing Portugal. “If I could, I’d play football only for the national team,” he said. “I wouldn’t play for any other club because it’s the culmination and the peak of a football player.” He described playing for his country as a privilege and a core reason he continues.

Despite nearing the twilight years of his career, Ronaldo’s mindset remains focused, not nostalgic. He refuses to view awards or recognition as indicators that his career is winding down. Instead, he treats each match, each goal, and each moment with renewed ambition. As fans wait to see what comes next, one thing is clear: Cristiano Ronaldo isn’t stepping back yet — he’s still in pursuit.
