Agreement gives OpenAI access to Amazon Web Services’ (AWS) high-performance Nvidia-powered infrastructure as Artificial Intelligence compute demands surge.
OpenAI has signed a landmark $38 billion cloud computing deal with Amazon Web Services (AWS), marking a major expansion beyond its existing partnership with Microsoft and signaling the intensifying race to secure computing power in the artificial intelligence sector.
The seven-year agreement, announced on Monday November 3, 2025, will see AWS provide the infrastructure needed to train and deploy OpenAI’s next-generation AI models. The deal grants OpenAI access to thousands of Nvidia-powered GPUs hosted on Amazon’s new UltraServers, which are built to scale AI workloads to an unprecedented level.
“Scaling frontier AI requires massive, reliable compute,” said OpenAI co-founder and CEO Sam Altman in a statement. “Our partnership with AWS strengthens the broad compute ecosystem that will power this next era and bring advanced AI to everyone.”
The UltraServers utilize Nvidia’s GB200 and GB300 series graphics processors, specifically optimized for large-scale artificial intelligence training and inference. According to Amazon, these systems can be scaled to tens of millions of CPUs, enabling vast model training and deployment at speeds far beyond current standards.

This deal is part of OpenAI’s broader push to expand its infrastructure capacity, which includes plans for up to 30 gigawatts of power—an amount roughly equivalent to the output of 30 nuclear reactors or enough electricity to power 26 million homes.
However, the agreement has reignited debate over whether the AI industry is entering bubble territory. Critics point to soaring valuations and enormous capital expenditures from AI firms that are not yet matched by sustained profitability or widespread commercial adoption.
Despite the skepticism, industry analysts say the investment reflects a long-term bet on AI’s transformative potential, particularly as demand for intelligent systems accelerates across sectors from healthcare and finance to education and entertainment.
This deal also signals a more diversified strategy for OpenAI, which has relied heavily on Microsoft’s Azure cloud platform in the past. With the AWS partnership, OpenAI appears poised to extend its footprint across multiple cloud ecosystems—potentially reducing dependency risk while tapping into broader infrastructure expertise.
The first phase of the deal is expected to roll out in early 2026, as AWS prepares to deliver the initial batch of UltraServers to support the company’s expanding model suite.
