American musician Akon was taken into custody in Georgia after authorities discovered an outstanding warrant from Roswell, New Mexico.
American singer and entrepreneur Akon was arrested in Georgia on Friday November 7 after authorities discovered he was wanted on an out-of-county warrant issued in Roswell, New Mexico. The 52-year-old artist, born Aliaune Thiam, was taken into custody by Chamblee Police following a Flock security camera alert linked to his white Tesla.
Officer Joshua Rosa located Akon near a Tint World shop on Chamblee Dunwoody Road. After verifying his identity, law enforcement officers arrested the musician. According to police reports, Akon remained calm and cooperative, acknowledging that he was aware of the outstanding warrant.
A subsequent search found no weapons or contraband. Akon was transferred to the DeKalb County Jail, where he was booked and released approximately six hours later. The DeKalb County Sheriff’s Office confirmed both the arrest and release to TMZ, which also published the singer’s mugshot showing him wearing a black hoodie with a neutral expression.

Details surrounding the Roswell warrant remain unclear, and authorities have not disclosed the specific allegations. Akon’s representatives have yet to release a public statement regarding the arrest or the underlying matter.
Akon rose to global fame in the early 2000s with hits such as Locked Up, Lonely, and Smack That, becoming a household name in the music industry. Over the past decade, he has expanded his focus to business ventures and philanthropy, including his Akon Lighting Africa initiative, which provides solar energy solutions to rural communities across the continent.
In addition, Akon has pursued ambitious urban development projects, notably Akon City in Senegal, a futuristic metropolis inspired by the fictional Wakanda from Black Panther and designed to be powered largely by cryptocurrency. These ventures have positioned him as a high-profile figure beyond the music world, blending entrepreneurship, innovation, and social impact.
While the arrest was brief and non-violent, it underscores the ongoing reach of law enforcement across state lines, and serves as a reminder that outstanding warrants can lead to unexpected legal encounters—even for international celebrities.
As the story develops, public attention is likely to focus on the reasons behind the Roswell warrant and whether further legal action will follow. Meanwhile, Akon’s arrest has sparked widespread discussion on social media, blending curiosity about the legal matter with renewed interest in his music and entrepreneurial projects.
