Jigawa State Governor Umar Namadi has laid out a visionary plan, with the aim of cultivating 150,000 hectares of wheat in the upcoming farming season.
Addressing a gathering in Dutse, the state capital, the governor, while hosting a delegation from the Africa Development Bank on Wednesday, discloses plans to broaden the program to encompass other crops by 2025.
In a bid to strengthen Nigeria’s food security, the Federal Government designates 40,000 hectares of land for wheat cultivation in Jigawa State, aiding more than 10,000 farmers with crucial agricultural inputs.

Namadi conveys the government’s strong commitment and determination to fortify food security in the state and the county as a whole.
Ringim, in the statement, said, “Governor Namadi further stated that the only way to move people out of poverty is through the development of agriculture.”

The statement said the governor lauded President Bola Tinubu for initiating various agricultural intervention programmes since the inception of his administration.
She further disclosed that the governor also commended “the initiative of feed the African initiative established by the African Development Bank, assuring that government will monitor all the inputs interventions to ensure adequate use it for the attainment of greater Jigawa.”
In accordance with the statement, Dr. Martings Fregnen, the delegation leader, earlier stated that the visit was designed to inform the governor about the bank’s activities and to reach agreements on areas for sustained collaboration.
Fregnen outlined the commitment to support the National Agricultural Development Scheme in areas such as irrigated land, farmers’ financing, and providing opportunities for the region’s youth to spur regional development.
Recognizing the support and commitments of the Jigawa State Government, other key stakeholders convey gratitude and assure their commitment to sustaining the cordial relationship between both parties.
