'They Lied, I Did Not Drag Atiku To Court' - Gov Wike Clarifies

Nyesom Wike, the controversial Rivers State Governor who is currently embroiled in some serious inter-party tussle has come out to fully rubbish some of the reports which had stated that he dragaged the Peoples Democratic Party’s (PDP) Presidential candidate, Atiku Abubakar to court.

There had been wide speculations and reports that Governor Nyesom Wike had sued Atiku while asking the court to declare him the winner of the last PDP’s presidential primary election.

But Wike, on Friday, had openly distanced himself from any suit, saying he never dragged Atiku to court over the last party’s presidential primary election.

The governor spoke during the inauguration of Rivers State House of Assembly Quarters in Port Harcourt.

According to him, “I did not ask anyone to file any suit for me…I don’t know the lawyers”. I am not a kid to be filing a suit at this time.

“I had 14 days after the primaries within which to have filed any suit. I didn’t do that then, is it two months after primaries I will file a suit?”

Wike, however, said those hanging around Atiku were working for his failure at the poll.

There have been running battle between the governor and Atiku, over the way he was treated at the primary election and the selection of a the party’s vice presidential candidate.

It had been reported that over six weeks after the Presidential primaries of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP), Rivers State Governor Nyesom Wike who finished as a runner up has sued the presidential candidate of the party Atiku Abubakar; the Governor of Sokoto State, Aminu Tambuwal; as well as the PDP over the conduct of the exercise.

Africa Today News, New York recalls that the presidential primary of the party that was held was in Abuja on May 28 and May 29, 2022.

In the suit marked FHC/ABJ/CS/782/2022, Wike and a PDP chieftain whose name was given as Newgent Ekamon, are listed as the plaintiffs.

In the originating summons, the PDP is listed as the first respondent while the Independent National Electoral Commission is the 2nd respondent. Tambuwal and Atiku are listed as the 3rd and 4th respondents respectively.
