Nigeria’s Vice President-Elect, Kashim Shettima yesterday visited former military President, General Ibrahim Babangida, and former Head of State, General Abdulsalami Abubakar in Minna.
Shettima who was in Minna, the Niger State capital, paid separate homage to the two former Nigerian leaders amid Ramadan.
Africa Today News, New York gathered from sources close to the two leaders that the visits by Shettima were not unconnected with the incoming All Progressives Congress (APC) government to be led by the President-Elect, Bola Tinubu.
The sources said Tinubu is seeking the support of the two elder statesmen.
Africa Today News, New York further gathered that the move by the Vice President-Elect was to consult with the two former military leaders over a plot by some politicians to install an interim government as confirmed by the Department of State Services (DSS) on Wednesday.

The vice president-elect accompanied by the governor of Niger State Alhaji Abubakar Sani Bello on the visit to the two former Nigeria leaders told journalists that the elder statesmen as stakeholders, have a lot to offer to humanity and the nation especially on issues that affect the nation.
‘Stakeholders are beacons of hope and will continue to tap from their wealth of experience. They have a lot to offer the nation and humanity. We will continue to reach out to them for their advice, inputs and perspectives on issues confronting us as a nation,’ he said.
On what Niger State should expect in the next administration at the federal level, Senator Shettima assured Nigerlites of a new lease of life saying ‘there is no cause for alarm as the challenges of the state will be adequately addressed.’
The vice president-elect however did not give details of his discussion with former leaders.
