Handover: It Is Time To Support Tinubu, Wike Tells Nigerians

Rivers State Governor, Nyesom Wike has called on Nigerians to rally round and give their support to the President-elect, Bola Tinubu ahead of his expected inauguration on the 29th of May.

Wike noted that elections are over, hence the need to support Tinubu in ensuring good governance for the benefit of all Nigerians.

He made the appeal while addressing journalists after meeting with Tinubu at the Defence House in Abuja on Friday.

Wike was accompanied by his Oyo State counterpart, Seyi Makinde to the visit which happened in the Asokoro residence of the former Lagos Governor.

According to Wike: ‘Elections have come and gone, and the winners have emerged, therefore, it’s necessary for all Nigerians to rally round and give Tinubu the necessary support.’

‘Everybody is waiting for May 29 when Tinubu will be sworn-in and I’m confident he has what it takes to turn Nigeria around.’

On his part, Makinde also vowed to support Tinubu to achieve good governance.

‘I came here to basically pay homage to the President-elect and to let him know that elections are over and this is governance.

‘We will do our best to give him support for good governance,’ Makinde said.

Wike and Makinde were part of the G-5 integrity group of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, that worked against the party’s presidential candidate, Atiku Abubakar.

Both governors supported Tinubu of the All Progressives Congress, APC, during the last presidential election.

In another report, the outgoing President of Nigeria, Muhammadu Buhari has asserted while his party, the All Progressives Congress (APC) worked hard to retain power in the just concluded general elections, opposition political parties lost because they were overconfident.

Speaking on Thursday, he also averred that a blend of overconfidence, complacency, and poor tactics were the reasons the opposition lost their desired victory and sank them into a post-election crisis.

‘Our party blended confidence with caution, we worked hard and won. Now, their overconfidence is creating more problems for the opposition than anyone else,’ Buhari said when he received members of the Progressive Governors Forum led by their Chairman, Governor Abubakar Bagudu of Kebbi State, at his official residence in the State House, Abuja.
