Filippo Ferlazzo, an Italian citizen, has been handed a 24-year prison sentence for the murder of Alika Ogorchukwu, a Nigerian resident in Italy, in July 2022.
A 24-year prison sentence was handed down on Wednesday to the perpetrator who caused the death of a 39-year-old Nigerian man, who was using crutches, while walking in a coastal city in Marche during July 2022.
This announcement was made by Abike Dabiri-Erewa, who chairs the Nigerians in Diaspora Commission, in a statement released on Thursday.
NiDCOM spokesperson Gabriel Odu, in a statement bearing Dabiri-Erewa’s signature, lauded the Nigerian Mission in Rome for their dedication in handling this case and others related to Nigerian citizens.

She said, ‘I am glad that this case finally got justice. Like I always say, there have to be consequences for actions’.
Alika Ogorchukwu fell victim to a brutal assault on July 29, 2022, while he was plying his trade during daylight.
Alika Ogorchukwu met his tragic end when the aggressor, in plain sight of a crowd, employed Ogorchukwu’s crutches to deliver lethal blows. Strangely, some of the spectators opted to capture the incident on their smartphones without offering help.
Ferlazzo found himself in custody on July 30, 2022, facing accusations of both Ogorchukwu’s murder and the theft of Ogorchukwu’s phone. According to the Italian Police, the motive behind Ferlazzo’s actions stemmed from Ogorchukwu’s alleged request for Ferlazzo’s girlfriend to buy a handkerchief.
The incident occurred on the bustling main street of Civitanova Marche, Italy at 2 pm, on a Friday. Paramedics arrived at the scene, only to find Ogorchukwu deceased.
