NNPP Factional Chairman Alleges Threat To Life

Major Agbo, the factional National Chairman of the New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP), has raised concerns about his life being in danger and an attempted assassination.

Addressing the press in Abuja on Thursday, Agbo claimed that two armed individuals had entered the factional party secretariat in the Wuse Zone 4 area of the capital city, looking for him.

According to his account, the armed men had murderous intentions towards him.

It is worth remembering that in August 2017, the party’s founder and chairman of the board of trustees, Boniface Aniebonam, alongside Agbor and a few other executives, were expelled from the party for suspected involvement in anti-party activities by the faction under Rabiu Kwankwaso’s leadership.

Before this, Kwankwaso and the party’s National Working Committee were both placed on six-month suspensions by the party’s Board of Trustees for purportedly engaging in conduct deemed detrimental to the party.

Besides, the party introduced new national appointments, with Major taking up the role of interim national chairman.

Narrating his experience, the factional chairman said, ‘The reason for this briefing is to bring you to speed with an attempt made to assassinate me here in this office on Monday 16th August 2023.’

‘I walked in here at about 2.45 pm, and shortly after that two men walked in, ignoring the protocol advice from the desk boys in the front office.’

‘They walked in with weapons demanding to meet me, unknown to them they were talking to me. It was evident that they never knew me physically, in fact, my saving grace was that I was not sitting on my chair.’

‘Pointing a short gun on me, they demanded that I produce “Major Agbo” who one of them claimed was his course mate at Command and Staff College, Jaji. I asked him if he would identify his course mate he was talking about if seen, he replied “yes”. I then told them Major Agbo was not around.’

He also added that the men quickly retreated, hastily made their way to their ash-colored Toyota Corolla parked by the roadside, and zoomed off.

Addressing the recent incidents within the party caused by attempts to seize it by certain misguided elements and political opportunists, he stated that he had received several threats on his social media profiles, phone, and via text messages.

‘Let me also confirm to you that I have received several threats through WhatsApp voice calls telling me I would pay with my life for standing in the way in their quest to take the party from its founder and its mother organisation – NAGAFF.’

‘They made their threat on Monday but failed woefully as they could not identify me. The matter has been reported to the appropriate quarters for action,’ Agbo said.

‘It is my sincere hope that you would lend your voices to this brazen attempt to take my life over what does not belong to them. I hope that you would let the whole world know that my life is presently in danger by usurpers who were not part of our party in its twenty-two years of existence but only joined us last year.’
