I Haven't Left The PDP, Jonathan SaysGoodluck Jonathan

Following growing speculations that Ex-President Goodluck Jonathan is on his way to the ruling All Progressives Congress, APC, to run for president again in 2023, Jonathan has now come out to dismiss those insinuations by reaffirming his loyalty to the PDP, declaring that he is still a member of the PDP while describing the party ‘as a friend that carries people along.’

Jonathan who spoke at the supreme court victory/ thanksgiving service of Bayelsa State Governor Senator Douye Diri, held at the State Ecumenical Centre, Yenagoa, weekend said: ‘PDP has been a very friendly party, I am a member of PDP and I know from the beginning till today, it has been a very friendly party, PDP is a party that carries everybody along and we should extend that at Bayelsa State level, that starts it in Bayelsa State so that all those who are in the political process so that at the end of any political contestation for the governorship or any other office, let us work together for the interest of our people.’

The former President advised politicians to reconcile their differences and work together after every political contest and shun politics of bitterness and acrimony, adding that elections should be seen as a political contest and not a civil war.

This could be surprising considering the fact that just last year, the president announced his decision to resign from active politics, however, it remains to be seen if the former president is scheming to return to Aso rock or if there are some unseen hands currently mounting pressure on him to run for the number one office in Nigeria.

Rumours have it that the former president would be paired with Kaduna state governor – Nasir El-Rufai for the APC ticket in 2023, this, however, cannot be substantiated.
