The Federal Government of Nigeria has revealed that the Japanese Government has offered $18.2m (about N40.6bn) financial support to strengthen Nigeria’s health sector.
This was made known by the Minister of State for Budget and National Planning, Clem Agba, when he was spoke to newsmen in Benin yesterday during his visit to the Unive rsity of Benin Teaching Hospital.

According to the minister, his visit was to assess utilization of the N49bn intervention fund released by the Federal Government to 52 federal health institutions in the country.
He said Japan’s support would come in the form of equipment and capacity building for medical personnel.
He said the support was made possible from President Muhammadu Buhari’s visit to the Japanese Prime Minister in 2019.
‘I just want to let you know that Irrua Specialist Hospital and the UBTH, both in Edo, are included among the seven centers where this money will be spent.
‘We also work with a USAID and I signed those agreements where they also gave us 200 ventilators and I’m aware that Irrua Specialist Hospital got three and the UBTH also got three from the 200 ventilators that we spread throughout the country,’ he said.
