No fewer than UN peacekeepers, including several German nationals, have been left severely injured during an attack in northern Mali.

The target was a temporary base set up by the peacekeepers near the village of Ichagara in northern Gao, the UN mission said in a tweet.

Islamist insurgents linked to al-Qaeda and the Islamic State group have been active in the area.

Officials said a car bomb was used in the attack and that the wounded were being evacuated.

Africa Today News, New York can confirm that at least  13,00 UN peacekeepers are in Mali. At least 230 of them have been killed since 2013, making it the deadliest UN mission in the world.
