President Muhammadu Buhari has expressed sadness over the recent killing of over 40 passengers in Sokoto State by armed men suspected to be bandits.

This was made public in a statement by Buhari’s spokesman, Femi Adesina on Wednesday.

Africa Today News, New York reports that passengers who were travelling from Sabon Birni Local Government Area of the state to Sokoto Town were on Tuesday ambushed by the armed men who set fire on their vehicle and burnt them alive.

‘I am very distressed at the manner of death visited on these hapless citizens who were undertaking a legitimate journey to another part of the country,’ Buhari said.

‘It shows that the evil this administration is confronting is one that requires the support and involvement of all Nigerians.

‘I extend deep condolences to the families of the victims as I assure that the security agencies will continue to give their all to bring to an end the operations of these despicable people.’

Meanwhile, Senator Shehu Sani has lamented the failure of the current government in tackling security challenges across the nation.

The former lawmaker, who represented the Kaduna Central during the 8th National Assembly, in a post on his verified Facebook page while reacting to the killing of about 42 persons in Sokoto State recently, said the incident would have triggered outrage if it were the previous government.

According to him, those who are keeping mum in the incessant killings are not different from the assailants.

The post reads, ‘Forty two people were gruesomely killed and roasted in Sokoto. This is an atrocity that could have triggered an outrage and utter condemnation of the failure of the Government, if it had happened under the previous administration.

‘Those who are silent are same as those who are indifferent; those who are indifferent are same as those who perpetrated that crime.

‘Nowhere in the World are human lives so cheap, dispensable and disposable’.

Bandits were recently proscribed in Nigeria meaning they have now been designated, terrorists, however, they have been going on with attacks in different parts of Northern Nigeria.
