Uromi Bank Robbery Police Confirm Recovery Of N37m

The Edo State police Command, on Friday confirmed that some monies which were carted away during the deadly bank robbery in Uromi have been recovered by its men.

Commissioner of Police, Phillip Ogbadu confirmed this when he spoke to the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in an interview which was confirmed by Africa Today News, New York.

Recall that on Thursday afternoon, no fewer than 20 armed men were reported to have attacked four banks in the town, in an operation that lasted for over two hours without any major resistance.

About ₦37million and five cars suspected to have been used for the operation were recovered from a bush.

The CP pointed out that the assailants abandoned the cash and vehicles after realising that the police were closing in.

According to eyewitnesses, the criminals left behind several bags of cash which were they were making away with.

Meanehile, the Deputy Governor of Edo State, Phillip Shaibu on Friday visited Uromi which is under Esan North-East Local Government Area, over the incident to ascertain what actually happened.

He consoled the people and business owners, assuring that the perpetrators would be apprehended.

Meanwhile, the Ojuromi of Uromi, Anslem Odaloighe Eidenojie II, has condemned the attack on four commercial banks by suspected armed robbers in Uromi town, in the Esan North-East Local Government Area of Edo State.

Eidenojie described the attack as one similar to a war zone as the gunmen not only took control of the area but also killed innocent citizens.

‘The situation was like a war zone and it lasted for over two hours and the robbers took control of the area and killed my subjects,’ the monarch said when he received a delegation of the state government, including the State Governor, Mr Godwin Obaseki, at his palace during an on-the-spot assessment of the scene of the robbery incident.
