Attack On Journalists: Gov Sanwo-Olu Orders Investigation

Babajide Sanwo-Olu who is the Lagos State Governor has openly ordered for an investigation into Sunday’s attack which was carried out on a bus conveying journalists on Lagos Island.

The dramatic incident had occurred between Ebute-Ero and Adeniji, Iga-Iduganran, during the APC presidential candidate Asiwaju Bola Tinubu’s visit to the palace of the Oba of Lagos, Oba Rilwan Akiolu.

Some of the journalists covering the event had been mistaken for Tinubu’s personal journalists and had been attacked by some hoodlums.

Sanwo-Olu has directed also that those involved must be fished out and made to face the law.

A statement issued by Commissioner for Information and Strategy, Gbenga Omotoso, on Monday said besides, the government would pick up the hospital bills of those injured in the incident.

He said: “Lagos State Government condemns the incident. We hold the media in high esteem and the government has always ensured that they have a conducive environment to perform their duties.

“Nobody or group will be allowed to destroy our cordial relationship with the media. Lagos has no room for hooligans.”

Rilwan Akiolu who is the Oba of Lagos, had given an open assurance for the All Progressives Congress, APC, presidential candidate, Bola Ahmed Tinubu that the ancestors of Yoruba land would ensure his victory come 2023.

The Oba of Lagos gave the blessings on Sunday when the Asiwaju of Lagos had paid him a visit on his return to the State after he had clinched the APC ticket earlier in the month.

According to the monarch, Tinubu’s victory at the 2023 presidential election would have made the Yoruba land a much better place.

He said, “Your emergence as the presidential candidate of your party is the beginning of another journey in your political career.

“All Yoruba ancestors shall be with you on this journey to make our fatherland a better place.”
