2023 Wike Moves To Increase Political Appointees To 100,000

The Governor of Rivers State, Nyesom Wike has disclosed that the number of his recent political appointees will soon be increased to 100,000 people despite the backlash. 

Governor Wike made this disclosure yesterday during a media chat with selected journalists in Port Harcourt which was monitored by Africa Today News, New York.

He, however, pointed out the incoming administration which will replace him from 2023 is free to do away with the appointees if it cannot meet up with their financial obligations.

While defending his decision to appoint more people, the governor said they are Rivers people and no body should have problems with it.

He said ‘The people appointed are they not Rivers people? Will they not be paid salaries?

‘I can tell you now this morning we met, we are going to increase it to 100,000.

‘This is part of what we promised our people, if the next government come and cannot go with it, it is not tied to continue with it’.

The governor explained that the people are appointed to enable them gather information from the unit levels so the government would know how it is performing.

Meanwhile, Wike had for the umpteenth time reiterated the call to remove Iyorchia Ayu as the National Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).

Speaking on Thursday, Wike asserted that he has already accepted the emergence of Atiku Abubakar as the presidential candidate of the party and Governor Ifeanyi Okowa of Rivers State as the party’s running mate, but Ayu must resign.

He submitted that Ayu’s resignation was the only precursor for reconciliation in the party.

The governor spoke while hosting the Cross River candidates for governorship, senatorial, House of Representatives, House of Assembly elections, and local government party chairmen at his private residence in Rumueprikom.
