I Will Not Disappoint You, Tinubu Assures Nigerians

Nigeria’s incoming President, Bola Ahmed Tinubu has vowed never to disappoint Nigerians, recognising the trust and magnitude of expectation and responsibility bestowed on him as he receives investiture and takes over as the country’s leader next week. 

He made the declaration on Thursday evening in his acceptance speech after President Muhammadu Buhari conferred on him the National Honour of Grand Commander of the Federal Republic (GCFR) at the State house.

The President-elect also acknowledged that Nigerians are deserving of a better country, noting that his administration will continue to reach out to President Buhari whenever the need arises.

Africa Today News, New York reports that the former Lagos State governor who was indicated for drug trafficking in the United States thirty years ago will become the 16th person to be given the GCFR Honour following in the footsteps of Nnamdi Azikiwe, Obafemi Awolowo, Shehu Shagari, Olusegun Obasanjo, Abdulsalami Abubakar, Ibrahim Babangida, Ernest Shonekan, Sani Abacha, Umaru Yar’Adua, Goodluck Jonathan and Moshood Abiola.

President Buhari also conferred Vice President-elect Kashim Shettima. with the honour of Grand Commander of the Order of the Niger (GCON).

Meanwhile, outgoing President, Muhammadu Buhari has stated that he believes Nigeria will prosper under Tinubu’s leadership.

“The Nigerian people have recongised your leadership qualities, political acumen, and passion to serve our great nation and have entrusted you with the burden of governing our beloved country,” he said at the event which was held at the State House Conference Centre in Abuja on Thursday.

“I have no doubt that Nigeria will continue to thrive and achieve new heights under your leadership. You are the best candidate for the elections and Nigerians have chosen wisely.”

While hailing Tinubu for what he described as his “transformative leadership” as Lagos governor between 1999 and 2007, Buhari said such speaks volumes of the President-elect’s “dedication to the welfare of the Nigerian people”.

According to him, Tinubu is someone committed to the unity of the country and has in the past shown such qualities.
