The Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) in Borno State has conducted a successful operation resulting in the arrest of 27 suspects, including six individuals found to be involved in the vandalism of telecommunication masts.

During a media briefing in Maiduguri, Mr. Musa Farouk, the Commandant of the Borno State Command, shared details about the arrest of six vandals in Shiki village, Chibok Local Government Area. The vandals were responsible for damaging an important mast that was previously under the ownership of the defunct NITEL.

‘We received credible information on 25th June that a tower mast was being vandalised. Upon that information, I directed my men within that location to be on top of the game.’

‘They went to the scene at Shiki village in Chibok,’ Farouk stated.

Providing additional information, Mr. Musa Farouk, the Commandant of the Borno State Command, stated that the six suspects who were apprehended were the drivers of the three trucks found transporting the stolen sections of the vandalized mast. An investigation is underway to locate the individuals behind the hiring of these drivers.

The Borno State Commandant, Mr. Musa Farouk, revealed that the six suspects taken into custody were the drivers of the three trucks that were carrying the dismantled components of the vandalized mast. The investigation is ongoing to locate the individuals who enlisted their services.

Drawing attention to a troubling development, the commandant expressed worry about the rising engagement of teenagers in criminal behavior. He called upon stakeholders, particularly parents and religious leaders, to address this issue urgently and take necessary measures.

The commandant expressed gratitude for the continuous support extended by the corps Commandant General and Governor Babagana Zulum of Borno, underscoring their crucial role in enabling the command to fulfill its duty of safeguarding critical assets.
