Tension As Gunmen Abduct Ekiti APC Chair

Some yet-to-be-identified gunmen have kidnapped the Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Ekiti State, Mr Paul Omotoso.

Eyewitnesses told reporters that he was whisked away on Saturday night while driving along Agbado Ekiti-Imesi Ekiti Road.

APC State Publicity Secretary, Segun Dipe, said that the state party chairman was driving in his car along the Agbaso-Imesi Road when the incident happened.

Dipe said, ‘The chairman was driving in a Venza car along the road.

He said, ‘The gunmen shot at one of the tyres of the car. He was taken into a Toyota Hilux van and drove off. He was alone in the car when the incident happened, according to the information we have.

‘It happened in the evening, we got the information at about 6 pm. The security agencies – police and Amotekun – have been alerted, and they are all working on it,’ the APC spokesperson said.

When contacted on the phone, the Police Public Relations Officer, Ekiti State Command, Sunday Abutu, said that he would get back ‘as soon as I get the confirmation.’

Unknown gunmen Saturday morning invaded Zaki Akpuuna 1 and Diom communities of Mbaterem district in Ukum Local Government Area of Benue State and reportedly killed no fewer than 24 people.

Ukum is one of the three hotspots in Sankera axis where local bandits suspected to be gang members of the slain Terwase Akwaza aka Gana hold sway. Other hotspots are; Logo and Katsina-Ala.

It was gathered that the gunmen invaded the sleepy communities around 8 am on Saturday and launched a deadly attack leading to the death of 24 people.

Locals who spoke to our correspondent on the phone later on Saturday said that the attackers also burnt down several houses in adjourning villages.
