Former Vice-President Yemi Osinbajo has been bestowed with an appointment as a Global Advisor to the Global Energy Alliance for People and Planet (GEAPP).
GEAPP is a collaborative alliance that brings together philanthropic organizations, local entrepreneurs, governments, as well as partners specializing in technology, policy, and financing.
Via a series of tweets, the former Vice-President announced his appointment and made a firm commitment to mobilizing capital for the clean energy sector, with a particular focus on boosting Africa’s representation in the global carbon market.
He said, ‘I am excited to announce that I have been appointed Global Advisor to Global Energy Alliance for People and Planet @EnergyAlliance.’
‘Together, we will work to unlock capital flows into the clean energy sector and boost Africa’s share in the global carbon market through #ACMI’
‘GEAPP in such a short period have demonstrated a commitment to support developing countries’ shift to a clean energy using models that ensure universal energy access as well as drive economic growth, generate jobs and sustainable livelihoods and meet urgent climate goals.’

With this new appointment, Osinbajo has expressed his commitment to serving diligently, drawing from his experience as Vice President, and making valuable contributions to society at the global level.
The appointment of Osinbajo was revealed in a statement posted on Tuesday on GEAPP’s business website, clarifying that the appointment takes effect immediately.
The statement partly reads: ‘Osinbajo will support GEAPP’s partnership with governments to enhance the enabling environment and delivery effectiveness to unlock faster and greater capital flows into the clean energy sector.
‘He will also continue his activity as a leading advocate for Just Energy Transitions in Africa including scaling up Africa’s share of the global carbon market via the Africa Carbon Markets Initiative (ACMI). In May, Prof. Osinbajo was also confirmed as lead for the Commonwealth general election observers in Sierra Leone.’
‘This appointment underlines GEAPP’s commitment to partnering with governments and communities across Africa, Asia, Latin America, and the Caribbean to transition to clean energy systems that are driving economic growth, generating jobs and sustainable livelihoods, and helping to meet urgent climate goals during the next decade.’
Prof. Yemi Osinbajo said: ‘I am honoured by the opportunity to join this movement for green energy access. Given his extensive experience and knowledge in the energy sector, the former Vice President’s role in GEAPP is expected to be instrumental in furthering the organization’s mission of promoting clean energy solutions in developing nations.
As part of his responsibilities, Osinbajo is expected to extend support to GEAPP in its engagement with governments, working together to enhance the enabling environment and optimize the delivery mechanisms to facilitate the acceleration of capital flows into the clean energy sector.
