Missiles Rain On Khartoum As Airforce Base Comes Under Attack

The city of Khartoum, Sudan, fell to the intensity of a rocket bombardment on Thursday, with eyewitnesses reporting that paramilitaries initiated a targeted attack on a major air force base to the north. Also stating that the casualties included ‘dozens’ of soldiers killed and injured.

Residents recounted a devastating incident of ‘heavy artillery shelling’ and fighter jets circling overhead in the city’s northwest, with witnesses informing AFP that drones operated by the paramilitary Rapid Support Forces launched an assault on the Wadi Seidna air base.

As of April 15, a heated war has ensued between Sudanese army chief Abdel Fattah al-Burhan and his ex-deputy, RSF commander Mohamed Hamdan Daglo.

With its epicenter in Khartoum and the western Darfur region, the ongoing conflict has caused a staggering death toll of over 3,900 individuals and an unprecedented displacement of 3.3 million people.

Witnesses in West Darfur reported on Thursday that ‘Arab militias supported by the RSF’ launched an assault on the town of Serba. Local media sources stated that the ongoing attack, which commenced on Tuesday, has resulted in civilian casualties and the destruction of numerous houses.

In Nyala, the capital of South Darfur, residents bore witness to ‘violent clashes’ between the army, in control of the northern sector of the city, and the RSF, which asserts its authority over the southern region.

The International Criminal Court has opened a new investigation into alleged war crimes, spurred by the escalating violence in Darfur.

With the conflict going beyond 100 days, it has escalated to a severe humanitarian catastrophe, affecting not only Sudan but also compelling 700,000 people to seek shelter in neighboring countries.
