The government of Ogun state reiterates that school principals in both public primary and secondary educational institutions are not allowed to demand for any form of fee or levy.

The disclosure was made by Prof. Abayomi Arigbabu, the Special Adviser to Governor Dapo Abiodun on Education, Science, and Technology, in Abeokuta on Wednesday.

Arigbabu addressed education stakeholders in the state during the Pre-Resumption Meeting for the 2023/2024 Academic Session, reaffirming that the state government’s free education policy remains in effect.

‘So, people should be reminded that the present administration at inception cancelled all forms of payment to encourage children to have access to quality education, without paying any amount,’ he said.

Principals and Headteachers received counsel from the Special Adviser to actively instill and support merit within their schools.

He also stated that individuals who wish to donate to schools or organise events using school facilities must comply with the government’s prescribed guidelines.

‘This is in order not to disrupt the academic activities in schools.’

He also noted that the government is making efforts to strengthen the security structure in schools by implementing new measures.

He called on school administrators to uphold religious tolerance and prevent any actions that might cast the state in a negative light.
