Electricity Services Chief Applauds Tinubu For Act Signing

Commendations are pouring in for President Bola Tinubu as Mr. Aliyu Tahir, Managing Director of the Nigerian Electricity Management Services Agency (NEMSA), lauds the signing of the 2023 Electricity Act.

On Sunday, Mrs. Ama Umoren, who serves as the Head of Communication and Protocol at NEMSA, issued a statement from Abuja, stating that Tahir had conveyed these sentiments while joining in the celebration of President Tinubu and all Nigerians on the occasion of the 63rd Independence Anniversary.

According to Umoren, Tahir, who serves as both the Chief Electrical Inspector of the Federation and the Managing Director of NEMSA, lauded Tinubu for his dedication to advancing and enhancing electricity supply services in the country, applauding his leadership drive.

The head of NEMSA extended his appreciation to Mr. Adebayo Adelabu, the Minister of Power, for his tireless endeavours to offer crucial policy guidance within the Nigerian Electricity Supply Industry (NESI).

Tahir brought to mind that NEMSA’s origins can be traced to the Electricity Act of 2015, which has undergone amendments leading to the Electricity Act of 2023. Under this legislation, NEMSA is tasked with enforcing technical standards, and regulations, and carrying out technical inspections.

‘Some of these functions include testing and certification of all categories of electrical installations, electricity meters and instruments to ensure an efficient production and delivery of safe, reliable and sustainable power supply.’

‘We also guarantee safety of lives and property in the Nigerian electricity supply industry and other allied industries/workplaces and premises,’ he said.

He underscored that the agency prioritises delivering stable, safe, and reliable electricity networks for the people of Nigeria.

According to Tahir, NEMSA is committed to working closely with its partners to achieve zero electrical accidents, enhance energy accountability, eradicate sub-standard equipment and materials, and eliminate unqualified electrical personnel from the system.

He stated that ensuring efficient service delivery is an essential approach to realizing the vision.

‘We are doing this by consistently applying our corporate culture defined by a simple set of corporate values of quality service and safety, honesty and integrity, as well as leadership and collaboration,’ the statement quoted Tahir as saying.
