Super Eagles of Nigerian striker, Victor Osimhen has reportedly taken himself off penalty-taking duty for Napoli after a now infamous series of TikTok videos were posted to the club’s social media channels in recent weeks.

Africa Today News, New York reports that the Nigerian had been left very angry after two seemingly insulting videos were posted to the club’s TikTok account, one of which had mocked him as begging for a penalty then his miss from the spot in a Serie A match against Bologna at the end of September.

The videos caused an uproar for Osimhen and his supporters alike, eventually leading to the departure of one of Napoli’s social media executives.

Osimhen has not converted any of the three penalties that Napoli has been given after the incident, despite receiving them in each of those games.

Matteo Politano took the injury-time kick against Lecce in the game that was played between the two aforementioned fixtures.

According to reports from La Repubblica, reported via TMW, it was Osimhen himself who decided to take himself off penalty duty, having felt unnecessarily mocked by the club’s social media team.

In another report, in a rather surprising turn of events, the Super Eagles of Nigeria dropped a place in the latest FIFA men’s rankings for June despite a resounding victory in their last game of the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers and their only game since the last FIFA world rankings in June.

Africa Today News, New York reports that the Super Eagles, who were ranked 39th in the rankings released sometime in June, lost three points and dropped to 40th.

The Eagles defeated Sao Tome and Principe 6-0 in their last game of the AFCON qualifiers but the results turned out not to have any positive effect on their position on the rankings table.

Jose Peseiro’s men finished top of Group A of the AFCON qualifiers with an impressive 15 points and booked a spot at next year’s AFCON billed to hold in Ivory Coast.
