President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has officially given the go-ahead for Ola Olukoyede to assume the role of Executive Chairman at the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC).
As per the announcement by the presidential spokesperson, Ajuri Ngelale, Ola Olukoyede’s appointment is for a renewable term of four years initially, awaiting confirmation from the Senate.
The appointment of Olukoyede is established in section 2 (3) of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (Establishment) Act, 2004, that ‘the Chairman and members of the Commission, other than ex-officio members, shall be appointed by the President’.
The appointment comes in the wake of the resignation of Abdulrasheed Bawa, who was serving as the suspended Executive Chairman of EFCC.
Olukoyede, with more than two decades of experience, is a legal professional who has excelled as a regulatory compliance consultant and an expert in fraud management and corporate intelligence.

With a deep-rooted familiarity with the EFCC, he previously held the positions of Chief of Staff to the Executive Chairman from 2016 to 2018 and Secretary to the Commission from 2018 to 2023.
In addition, Ngelale revealed that President Tinubu has given his endorsement for the appointment of Muhammad Hassan Hammajoda as the Secretary of the EFCC.
Hammajoda is a seasoned public administrator with a wealth of experience in public finance management. He holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Accounting from the University of Maiduguri and also completed his Master’s in Business Administration at the same institution.
His career began as a lecturer at the Federal Polytechnic, Mubi, and he later ventured into the banking field, where he achieved success with positions at both the now-defunct Allied Bank and Standard Trust Bank.
Ngelale stated that the President has charged the new leadership of the EFCC with the responsibility of proving themselves and validating the trust vested in them for this essential national assignment. The President’s Renewed Hope agenda emphasizes the role of a restructured institutional framework in the fight against corruption.
