Afrobeats Currently Lacks Structure - Fireboy DML

Afrobeats sensation, Adedamola Adefolahan popularly known as Fireboy DML has said Afrobeats needs homegrown structures to sustain its global success.

In a recent interview with Cool FM which was monitored by Africa Today News, New York, the singer decried the lack of infrastructure in the country, questioning when international fans would be able to experience live performances in Nigeria.

Fireboy further stated that the establishment of an arena in a city like Lagos would facilitate a better global connection.

‘Everyone is saying ‘Afrobeats to the world.’ The music is perfect. But there is no structure,’ Fireboy said

‘The [foreign] fans are listening [to our music] but when are they going to come to Lagos and watch us perform? When are we going to have arenas in Lagos where we can bring people from all around the world? You know, it [structure] will make everything just easier.’

Since breaking into the limelight, Fireboy has established himself as a popular name in the music industry.

Fireboy DML hails from Sagamu, Abeokuta in Ogun State, Nigeria and he was born on the 15th of Feb, 1996. He is the first child of his parents and he has other three siblings; all boys

He graduated from Obafemi Awolowo University (OAU) and this is where he developed his musical interest.

Fireboy has also received several awards and recognitions for his craft. In 2021, he won the African Fan’s Favourite category at the All Africa Music Awards, he also won Best Afrobeat Single for his hit track ‘Peru’ at the 2022 Headies.

In another report, popular South African hip-hop artiste, Nsikayesizwe David Junior Ngcobo, professionally known as Nasty C, has claimed that he is the best rapper in Africa at the moment.

The ‘Zulu Man With Some Power’ crooner stated this in a recent interview with Glitch Africa where he said: ‘I am not the biggest rapper in Africa. Am I the best rapper in Africa? I think so.’

During the interview, he also listed M.I, Olamide, Phyno, Odumodublvck, and Blaqbonez as his top 5 Nigerian rappers.

He noted that the list was a personal favourite.
