The head coach of the Super Eagles, Jose Peseiro has commended his players for another gritty display following the team’s 1-0 win over Angola in their quarter-final tie at the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON).
Africa Today News, New York reports that Ademola Lookman fired home the winning goal for the Super Eagles five minutes before the break.
The Super Eagles wasted a number of chances in the game but were able to protect their lead.
Peseiro praised his players for working hard to achieve victory in the game.
“We played a good game, Angola showed they deserved to be here. We created two chances in the first half and hit the post in the first half.
“I’m very happy with my players. We scored once goal and could have had one or two more.

“My team did well against a good team. We controlled the game and dominated our opponent.
“In the first half, we played well, closed down the spaces and didn’t give them room to operate.
“After the break, Angola came out more and we had chances on the counter attack which we didn’t utilise.
“I’m happy for my players, we deserved to win the game. I want to congratulate them on this victory.”
Nigeria have qualified for the semi-final of the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations, thanks to a 1-0 win over Angola.
Ademola Lookman finished off a fine Super Eagles move to score the only goal of the game.
It is his third strike at the tournament, having netted a brace against Cameroon in the Round of 16.
Jose Peseiro’s men have now qualified for the semi-final, where they will face the winner of the last-eight fixture between South Africa and Cape Verde.
