Pandemonium As FCT Residents Loot NEMA Warehouse

Report reaching the desk of Africa Today News, New York reports that some residents of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), have looted a warehouse belonging to the National Emergency Management Agency of Nigeria (NEMA), over the current economic hardship across the country.

It was gathered that the warehouse, located in Karimo, Phase 3 region of the FCT, Abuja, was raided on Sunday morning by angry Nigerians resident of the FCT.

The residents carted away foodstuffs and other items.

Personnel of the Nigeria Police Force have been deployed to the area to disperse the looters and secure the building.

The spokesperson for the FCT Police Command, Josephine Adeh, confirmed the incident saying that the situation had been brought under control.

“The situation is now under control,” she said.

In another report, Mr. Nyesom Wike who is the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, has expressed satisfaction with the work being done by contractors in the nation’s capital, reiterating that no ongoing project would be abandoned.

Wike explained that the projects that are considered as priority have been included in the FCT’s 2024 statutory budget for adequate funding.

Ongoing projects in the territory include the provision of Wuye District infrastructure, the FCT Highway 105 (11km six lane dual carriageway) linking the Airport Expressway to Kuje and the official residence of the Vice President.

Speaking on the projects, Wike said he was very happy with the speed and quality of work and commended the contractors.

He said the contractors have also assured that the Wuye/Wuse flyover, which is 85 per cent complete, and the Vice President’s official residence, will be ready by May this year.

The minister further stated that the FCT Highway 105 (11km six lane dual carriageway) linking the Airport Expressway to Kuje, when completed, would open up the area and bring a lot of changes to the FCT.
