Chinese Man To Die By Hanging Over Ummu’s Murder

A High Court sitting in Kano State has sentenced a Chinese national who’s name is Mr. Frank Geng Quangrong, to death by hanging for stabbing to death his Nigerian lover, Ummukulsum Buhari.

Africa Today News, New York reports that Frank, who used to live in Railway Quarters Kano, was convicted on one count charge of culpable homicide.

The trial judge, Justice Sanusi Ma’aji handed down the sentence in his judgment. Justice Ma’aji held that the prosecution had proven its case beyond reasonable doubt.

“The defendant’s testimony is inconsistent. I hereby find him guilty. I hereby recommend mercy by the Kano State Governor on behalf of the convict,” Justice Ma’aji said.

Earlier, the prosecution counsel, Attorney-General of Kano State, Haruna Dederi, had informed the court that the convict committed the offence on September 16, 2022, at Janbulo Quarters Kano.

He said on the same date, at about 9 p.m., the convict stabbed the deceased with a knife in her house situated at Janbulo Quarters, Kano for an undisclosed reason.

“The victim was rushed to the Murtala Muhammad Specialist Hospital Kano, where she was confirmed dead by a medical doctor,” he said.

The defendant pleaded not guilty to the charge.

In response to the judgment, the state Attorney General, Haruna Dederi described it as a landmark decision for the state.
The defence counsel, Muhammad Dan’zumi stated his intention to appeal the decision at the Court of Appeal, citing grounds for appeal found in the judgment.

In another report, against the backdrop of a tense 10-day ordeal in the hands of kidnappers, Mr. PengChao Zhang, a Chinese national, was rescued by the Kwara State Police Command from a forest hideout within the state.

Police operatives, supported by the Vigilante group, orchestrated an extensive search and investigation in the state’s forest, culminating in the successful recovery of Zhang, who also goes by the name Williams Kaka among his business contacts, on Tuesday.

Allegedly, Zhang fell victim to abduction when a gang of six armed men stormed Cherish Guest House, located in Eyenkorin, a suburb adjacent to Ilorin, the vibrant capital of Kwara State.
