Barrister Julius Abure who is the National Chairman of the Labour Party (LP), yesterday allegedly escaped an assassination attempt on him at his Abuja residence which also saw the burning of his house.
His residence was also gutted by a mysterious fire which started a few minutes after 1 AM on Wednesday while Abure and the members of his family were asleep.
This was confirmed in a statement by the Labour Party National Publicity Secretary, Mr Obiora Ifoh which was made available to Africa Today News, New York.
According to Ifoh, a member of the family who narrated the incidence, said the family was woken up by neighbours and security men living in the compound who raised the alarm.
“The entire family were trapped as the inferno had reached the staircase making it impossible for Abure and family to escape.

“However, it took divine intervention for the national chairman and his family to escape after neighbours and security men gallantly pulled down one of the windows upstairs making ways for the family to escape.
“Men of the Fire Service arrived shortly after Abure and his family were evacuated.
“Abure and his family were rushed to a private hospital where they are presently receiving treatment. Their condition is however stable.” He stated.
In another report, the chief spokesperson for the Obi-Datti campaign organisation, Yinusa Tanko, had earlier claimed that the national chairman of Labour Party, dismissed the advice of the party’s presidential candidate, Peter Obi, for an all-inclusive convention.
Tanko, who stated this in an interview on Channels Television’s breakfast programme, Sunrise Daily, yesterday, said the current crisis rocking Labour Party could have been prevented if the leadership had taken the advice of Obi.
He said the recently concluded national convention of the party which returned Abure as the national chairman, was not all-inclusive.
