Otti Moves To Convert Criminal Hideouts In Abia To Markets

The Police Command in Abia State, in joint efforts with Local Government Area authorities, has inspected volatile spots in the state intending to enhance security across the state.

The command, through its Divisional Police Officers, inspected volatile spots within their areas of operations.

Africa Today News, New York reports that as part of the comprehensive crime-prevention strategy, the state Commissioner of Police, Kenechukwu Onwuemelie, accompanied by the Mayor, of Umuahia North Local Government, Victor Ikeji, on Wednesday, personally undertook crucial assessments of some areas.

The mayor announced that the government will construct a market and automobile park on the site, replacing the shantytowns that were used as safe havens for criminals.

The mayor said that tearing down the shantytowns would improve security by forcing criminals and drug dealers out of the city centre.

During the exercise, the team focused on areas known to be hotbeds of criminal activities and drug peddling in the Umuahia North Local Government Area.
