Ex-Arsenal Forward Billy Vigar Dies Aged 21 After Injury

Billy Vigar, a former Arsenal youth player, has tragically passed away at the age of 21, following a serious brain injury sustained during a non-league match.

The incident occurred during an Isthmian League Premier Division fixture between Chichester City and Wingate & Finchley. Reports state that the game was abandoned just 13 minutes in after Vigar collided with a concrete wall while attempting to keep the ball in play. He was immediately taken to hospital, placed in an induced coma, and underwent surgery. Despite medical efforts, the injury proved fatal, and he died on Thursday morning, 25 September 2025.

Vigar’s football journey began in Arsenal’s academy, which he joined in December 2017 at age 14. He signed professional terms in 2022, although he never made a senior appearance for Arsenal. During his time under contract, he spent loan spells with Derby’s under-21 side and Eastbourne Borough. After departing Arsenal in 2024, he played for Hastings United before joining Chichester City ahead of the 2025 season.

Clubs and supporters have expressed deep sorrow. Chichester City confirmed the news publicly, requesting that Vigar’s family be afforded privacy. Arsenal also issued condolences, describing him as “quick, powerful and fiercely determined.” As a mark of respect, Chichester have postponed their next match against Lewes.

This is a deeply sad moment for English football, especially among the non-league and youth communities. At just 21, Vigar was a young player with promise and a life ahead of him. While his tragic passing raises questions about player safety, concrete changes should come only after careful, fact-based investigation.
