Barcelona Still Owe Man City €13M For Ferran Torres Transfer

Barcelona are set to make their final payment to Manchester City as part of the deal for Spanish forward Ferran Torres, with €13 million still outstanding from the 2021 transfer agreement.

According to reports from Spain, the payment is due within the current financial year, marking the conclusion of a multi-installment deal struck when Torres moved from the Premier League champions to the Catalan giants in December 2021. The total value of the transfer was estimated at around €55 million, including add-ons.

This final installment comes as Barcelona continues to navigate ongoing financial challenges. Despite significant efforts to balance their books, the club remains under pressure from La Liga’s financial fair play regulations. The €13 million payment adds to a list of financial obligations that Barcelona must settle before the end of the fiscal year to maintain compliance and avoid further restrictions on player registrations.

Since joining Barcelona, Ferran Torres has endured a mixed spell, struggling to establish himself as a regular starter under Xavi Hernández. However, the Spanish international has shown flashes of quality and remains part of the club’s long-term plans, particularly as they look to rebuild with young talent.

Manchester City, on their part, are expected to receive the final payment without issue. The English champions have a history of structured transfer deals and will be keen to finalize the transaction that has now spanned nearly four years.

While the amount is modest compared to Barcelona’s broader financial commitments, it underscores the lingering effects of the club’s heavy spending in previous seasons — a reminder that the financial aftermath of the post-Messi era is still unfolding at Camp Nou.
