Barcelona FC: Fans Return to Camp Nou After Two-Year Absenc

More than 22,000 fans attended an open training session at the partially renovated Camp Nou, marking Barcelona’s emotional return to their historic home.

For the first time in more than two years, the roar of Barcelona supporters echoed once again through the Camp Nou as fans returned to the iconic stadium for an open training session on Thursday November 6, 2025 — an emotional milestone in the club’s long-awaited homecoming.

Around 22,000 spectators filled the stands, paying between €5 ($6) and €10 ($11), for the rare opportunity to witness their team’s first on-pitch activity at the partially renovated venue. The event offered not just nostalgia but also optimism, as several injured players made encouraging returns to full training.

Goalkeeper Joan Garcia drew applause after rejoining the squad earlier than expected from injury, while Andreas Christensen also resumed group training. Defender Eric Garcia, still recovering from a broken nose, participated fully while wearing a protective mask.

The open session marked the club’s first event at Camp Nou since mid-2023, when renovations forced Barcelona to play home matches at the Estadi Olímpic Lluís Companys. The redevelopment project is part of the club’s ambitious Espai Barça plan — a large-scale modernization of the stadium and its surrounding facilities.

Currently licensed to host 27,000 spectators, the stadium is only partially operational as construction continues on the remaining tiers and structures. However, club president Joan Laporta said the progress has been “remarkably ahead of schedule” and expressed optimism that Barcelona will host their first official match back at Camp Nou against Athletic Club on November 29 2025.

“The dream of returning home is becoming reality,” Laporta told reporters. “Soon we’ll fill this stadium again with the energy and passion that define Barcelona.”

For supporters, the occasion was as much about emotion as sport. Chants of “Visca Barça!” rang through the stands as fans caught their first glimpse of the modernized arena — featuring improved seating, new hospitality zones, and enhanced acoustics designed to amplify the atmosphere.

The team used the open session to engage with the crowd, signing autographs and tossing shirts into the stands before wrapping up with a brief scrimmage that drew cheers from every corner of the half-finished venue.

As the final whistle of training blew, fans lingered — savoring the long-awaited sound of football once again echoing through Camp Nou’s concrete walls.
