Kompany Dismisses Hoeneß Claim Linking Him To Man City Job

Vincent Kompany has firmly brushed aside comments from Uli Hoeneß suggesting that Pep Guardiola sees him as a future successor at Manchester City. Speaking with calm authority and clear focus, the Bayern Munich manager made it clear that he has no interest in entertaining speculation about Guardiola’s long-term plans or his own potential return to England. Instead, Kompany stressed that his full concentration lies with Bayern and the immediate challenges ahead.

The Belgian was asked directly whether he was aware of Guardiola’s supposed intentions and how long he intended to stay in Munich. His answer was measured but resolute. “I’ve said often enough that I’m not here to comment on Uli Hoeneß’ statements,” he began, underlining his respect for Bayern’s honorary president while making it equally clear that he would not be drawn into public debate. Kompany emphasised the unpredictability of football, insisting that long-term predictions rarely carry weight in a sport where circumstances change quickly and decisively.

He reiterated his commitment to Bayern, stating that he is “100% focused” on what the team can achieve under his leadership. With a squad in transition and expectations that remain as high as ever, Kompany stressed that his priority is living in the present, preparing for the next match, and supporting his players. External narratives, he suggested, hold no relevance to the daily work required to build consistency and success.

In addressing the rumour more directly, Kompany also pointed out that Guardiola has made similar remarks in the past, both last year and the year before. For him, such comments are neither binding nor meaningful. “I can also say now who will be Bayern’s next coach,” he said with a hint of dry humour, highlighting the pointlessness of speculation. “That does not decide anything and doesn’t play any role for me.”

The exchange reflects Kompany’s composed approach to management and his refusal to let noise around him affect his priorities. While the idea of him succeeding Guardiola will undoubtedly resurface as long as both men remain prominent figures in European football, Kompany’s message couldn’t be clearer: he is anchored firmly in the present — and the only future he is thinking about is Bayern’s next game.
