Facebook founder and CEO Mark Zuckerberg was live on Facebook with his wife Priscilla and Dr. Don Ganem, a leading infectious disease specialist and a doctorate holder in UCSF Institution, San Fransico. They talked about the path forward in developing treatments for COVID-19 and what we can expect in the coming months.
They talked about the types of medical interventions that can be used to quell the spread of coronavirus and also the methods which can be used to aid the medical and scientific testing and research of coronavirus vaccines.
When asked about the processes which are ongoing to stop the spread of the coronavirus and possibly release a vaccine that can be used to eradicate the virus, Dr. Ganem first responded by giving a brief history of the Coronavirus influx and how it began.
Then he talked about how the coronavirus is new to our generation and he also referenced his experience with other pandemics such as HIV/AIDS, The Influenza and the SARS-MERS Virus of the 2000s.
He also reiterated that the Coronavirus pandemic took us all by surprise as no one would have ever seen it coming. He also likened the Coronavirus pandemic to that of the great Influenza while saying that they both have the same characteristics.
He commended the lockdown action which World Governments embarked on to curb the spread of the Coronavirus and make the job of Scientists and Doctors much easier as the world is having a difficult time keeping up with the death toll in major cities.
He also listed the preventive measures that can be taken to stop the coronavirus and he also talks about people who are more prone or immune to the virus.
