Barca Academy of Nigeria’s new technical director, Jorge Couto at the weekend took a facility tour of the academy to assess the suitability of its technical crew to the FC Barcelona global practices. Couto’s first point of call was the Corona School, Gbagada, Lagos, facility, where he met with the school’s head, Mrs. Henrietta Eguagie.

Accompanied by the chairman, Blaugrana Group International, Leslie Oghomienor, who is also an old pupil of the 60-year-old school, Couto told the media after inspecting the facilities that he was satisfied by the high standard of tools in the school. He said, “The Barca Academy is a top notch brand with very high taste and a passionate zeal to achieve excellent results, which informed its partnership with a grade A school like Corona.”

In her response, Mrs. Henrietta Eguagie, said she was excited to be part of a novel cause initiated by an old pupil of the institution, adding that the school’s alliance with the more than 100 years old FC Barcelona showed that the school was a worthy brand.

“As teachers, we are always in bliss to see our own children excel in their own endeavours. It encourages us to do more in our own way just as we teach them to do. We are very delighted to be chosen as a partner in this axis for the Barca Academy. We strongly believe that this relationship is bound to rub off positively on the parties involved,’ she stated,

Also speaking at the event, Leslie Oghomienor, who left the school 40 years ago, said, “after many years in the oil and gas sector, venturing into dealing with children has made me realize with all conviction that teaching is the noblest of all professions.

“A teacher is a god for he or she created all others from the footballer in a village in Delta State to the president in Aso Rock, Abuja, and others. We are at some point left under the care of a teacher. They deserve the best from the society and we highly commend organisations, who reward this group.”Couto next visit would be to the academy’s facility at the Teslim Balogun Stadium, Lagos, where the programme started in 2016.
