President Muhammadu Buhari is billed to depart Abuja today to participate in the fifth Gas Exporting Countries Forum (GECF) summit in Malabo, Equatorial Guinea.

Leaders of major gas-producing nations, including Algeria, Egypt, Libya, Bolivia, Iran, Qatar, Russia, Trinidad and Tobago, United Arab Emirates (UAE), Venezuela, Kazakhstan and Norway will also attend the one-day meeting.

GECF was mooted in 2001 at the First Ministerial Meeting held in Tehran, Iran, while the maiden edition took place in Doha, Qatar in 2011.

Buhari’s Senior Special Assistant on Media and Publicity, Garba Shehu, said yesterday that the president had attended the third Gas Summit in Tehran in November 2015.
